Challenges

A leading manufacturer of laser bonder systems faced the challenge of finding a reliable hardware basis for its high-precision manufacturing equipment. Laser bonders are used to join sensitive components and must guarantee consistently high process quality at all times. To ensure this, complex image and video processing algorithms are used, which capture, analyze, and evaluate large amounts of data in real time during operation.

This placed high demands on the hardware used. An industrial PC with exceptionally fast memory connectivity and high computing power was required to execute the algorithms reliably and without delay. The system also had to be suitable for compact installation in the control cabinet, provide reliable 24/7 operation and ensure the long-term availability of the laser bonder for mass production.

Solution

A powerful 19 inch 4U system was developed to meet the requirements of the laser bonder manufacturer. Equipped with an industrial ATX motherboard and an AMD Ryzen™ Pro processor, this setup provides the computing power and memory bandwidth needed to reliably execute demanding image and video processing algorithms in real time.

The solution is provided as a turnkey system, with expansion cards, customer-specific software and the necessary system image integrated during production. This allows the manufacturer to install the industrial PCs directly into the laser bonder systems without the need for additional commissioning. With a planned long-term availability of at least five years, the hardware is optimised for continuous series production.

The preinstalled components and ready-to-use system allow individual PCs to be quickly installed or replaced: Thanks to 1:1 interchangeability, maintenance can be completed in just a few minutes, saving around three to four hours per system. At the same time, the long-term availability of the hardware ensures reliable planning and simplifies maintenance throughout the entire production period.
